Officials of the customs department seized 36 iPhones from two Indians worth a whopping Rs 32.61 lakh (USD 39,116.93) who had arrived from Hong Kong in northern India's Delhi.

This incident happened at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on April 22.

Visuals showed the customs officials opening a box to take out the mobile phones kept inside. The phones were stacked on top of the other and it was taken out and kept on a tray. Soon, the tray was full of mobile phones which were taken out from the box. The mobile phones were hidden inside liquor boxes and meant for distribution within the country.

All the iPhones were seized by the customs department under the Customs Act of 1962. The seizure was made from two Indian nationals who had just arrived from Hong Kong.

Customs authorities at the airport conducted targeted profiling and surveillance, leading to the interception of iPhones concealed within the packaging of alcoholic beverages. This enforcement action was carried out in accordance with the Customs Act of 1962, aimed at preventing the illicit import of such goods into the country.
