North Bend, WA, USA - May 3, 2024

North Bend, Washington - The extensive search for the last missing zebra, which escaped along with three others on April 28 near North Bend, has come to a successful conclusion. The mare, initially misidentified as a stallion, was safely apprehended on Friday evening in the Riverbend neighborhood after evading capture for nearly six days.

The zebra, affectionately named "Shug," will soon embark on a journey to Montana, the original destination of the dazzle of four zebras before their unexpected escape. The owner, who was transporting the animals from Winlock, Washington to Anaconda, Montana, made a brief stop off Interstate 90 in the North Bend area to address a trailer issue. However, during this momentary pause, all four zebras made a break for freedom.

While three of the zebras were swiftly recaptured within hours and resumed their eastward journey the following day, "Shug" eluded capture, roaming the foothills of the Cascades for several days.

In a collaborative effort involving private citizens and animal control officers from Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC), "Shug" was successfully apprehended on Friday evening. Despite her prolonged adventure in the wilderness, the zebra appeared to be in good health.
