A mum has split opinion online after revealing she manages her postpartum anger - by throwing ice into a bathtub.

Jennifer Hilton, 23, says she struggles with some aspects of being a new mum - and needs to let off some steam.

She's found that throwing ice into a bathtub at her home in Pickens, South Carolina, helps.

But after posting a video on TikTok she has received some backlash - although others have come out in her support.

Jennifer said: "I was very surprised when I got that response - I had been hoping to reach fellow young mothers who would understand what I was going through."

"It was pretty disappointing to see the response because I really wanted to bring awareness to the problem."

"I have been posting since my daughter was born, so over two years, and I just want to bring light to some of the harder parts of parenting that not many other people want to mention."

"But I am willing to be a punching bag on the internet in order to reach out to other mothers."

Jennifer says she first discovered the tactic on TikTok after she saw a woman posting about how her therapist recommended throwing ice as a way to release built-up anger.

She said: "I had never been angry before I was a mum, but, after my daughter was born, I found myself having overwhelming moments with her as a baby where I would be yelling or having and explosion of anger."

"I hated acting that way in front of my family, and I realised I needed a different outlet to help the chaotic emotions I was feeling."

Jennifer works part-time at a bookstore on weekends, but is at home with her daughter while her husband is at work throughout the week, making her the primary caregiver for the child.

Her husband has been fully supportive of the new practice, as Jennifer says he thinks it is a "great way to release"."

She said: "He was the first to witness my angry outbursts and he also understands, as a father himself, the feeling of getting frustrated."

She says this technique has been more effective than others she has tried since realising her anger was something she wanted to work on.

Sher said: "I've tried self-help books, meditation, breathing exercises, but this works far better than any of those."

"This was a way to actually feel it out and, once that feeling has been released, I've got nothing left to be angry with."
