Whale and Kayak
While kayaking across the Columbia River Bar in Washington state a young Gray Whale heading escorted my kayak for several kilometers. At times this whale was no more than a few meters to the side of the kayak matching the speed to stay in close contact. If boats would approach the whale would move to place my kayak between itself and the boat, but remain close to the kayak. Once we were beyond the shallow water of the bar this whale turned sharply and moved away from my kayak.
