This is the remarkable moment a kayaker in Hawaii had a very close encounter with a baby humpback whale.

Natalie Brown Norberg and Ella Annaheim set off from Olowalu on the island of Maui on February 12th and came across a small pod of whales which surfaced close to their kayaks.

When Brown Norberg put her camera under the water, she was amazed to discover a baby directly beneath her.

"Listen closely to hear their beautiful whale song," said Brown Norberg.

Natalie Brown Norberg and Ella Annaheim were kayaking out of Olowalu, Maui on Feb 12th. That’s the height of humpback whale season. They came across a small pod of whales and were hoping they would surface. About to move on and keep kayaking a friend said, “Oh they’re right here!” Using my new IPhone water housing I was able to get a shot of a baby whale right underneath our kayak, and the mama whale surfacing close by.
