Amusing footage has emerged from China of a BMW driver being rescued from his submerged car after he accidentally pressed the accelerator and ended up speeding into a river.

The video, filmed in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province on Wednesday, shows a man, speaking on the phone, climbing out of his sunroof and being rescued by an elderly man with a boat.

According to local reports, the unlucky driver's shoelace got caught around the accelerator pedal, and the car ploughed into the water.

Fortunately, he wasn't injured and, by all accounts, remained relatively calm.

Then, an elder comes to pick him up by boat.

Because the driver's shoelace hooked on the accelerator while he was driving.

When he struggled to free himself, he pressed on the accelerator accidentally and then the car rushed into the river.

Luckily the driver was not injured, as he was calm and handled well.
