Intense caving expedition results in man being stuck as water slowly rises

I've been caving for around 10 years now, after getting into the sport through a mutual friend. This particular cave, Lost Johns, is part of the Easegill system which is the largest and most complex of cave systems in Britain.

On this day, a group of six of us had been caving for around 3 hours, when we reached 'The Tube'. I went into it second, as I was the largest of the party. You will have seen from the the footage that it already had water in.. This part of the cave is 'active' where as there is always water present. I got stuck when my chest became wedged against a spike on the cave wall, and due to the position I was in, I was not able to raise myself with my right arm in order to free myself. At this point, the water was slowly rising, as I was in effect, blocking the waters path.. I removed my helmet to give a little more room to manoeuvre myself, but to no avail. As a caver, we should not panic, but this practice goes out the window when confronted with fear - I was scared.

I was pulled out by two colleauges, who crawled in behind me to make a human chain. Exiting the cave via a different route, took another 3-4 hours of intense crawling, sometimes through even tighter passages, through fault lines, and climbing. Finally exiting the cave, I was both mentally and physically drained.. I couldnt even manage a pint. My body was battered and bruised... But I still cave....
