Flat Fire in Ventnor Traps Five Occupants

Three appliances from Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to tackle a flat fire on the High Street, Ventnor at 22.43 on Wednesday night.

Three people were reported trapped within the blaze. One person has rescued from a balcony at the rear of the property, while firefighters advised the other four persons to access the roof.

Firefighters used ladders to rescue the occupants, before requesting further assistance from an Hydraulic Platform from Newport to rescue the remaining persons.

The fire originated from the ground floor flat.

At 00:20 all five occupants and a dog have been rescued from the building. The fire was brought under control and extinguished. Firefighters remained onsite to ventilate the building.

At 01:00 the Bronto Skylift from Newport Fire Station had left the scene, however paramedics remain checking over all of those rescued in tonight’s operation.
