Revealed: North Korea's skiing ghost town

Rare footage has emerged from inside North Korea's Masik Pass ski resort.

The video, shot on February 25 during high season by a Swedish tourist and ski enthusiast, shows what our filmer describes as "North Korean opera music" serenading empty slopes on a big screen at one of the reclusive state's flagship tourist attractions.

"We went there on an official invitation from the North Korean ski federation. Our delegation (were) all ski coaches," the filmer commented.

He adds: "When in North Korea, you’re always supposed to be together with your guides. But funnily enough, the guides didn’t ski so when we were skiing we were on our own, which meant that we met some North Korean skiers. Of course they were part of the elite but still not officials (as far as we could tell)."
