An Australian diver frees an octopus wrapped in a plastic bag.

In the video, captured on January 6 in the Gold Coast Seaway, the diver tries to remove the bag from inside the octopus' garden, which according to the filmer the animal did not want to let go off.

The filmer writes: "After a little bit of tug of war with him and trading it for a rock, the octopus finally lets go of the plastic bag."

The diver regularly takes part in dives with the Cleanup Crew-Environmental Divers group, which aims to remove as much marine debris as possible.

Visibility was good around 10m, in a strong current.

One of my dive partners called me over because he wanted me to film the octopus.

When I got into position, I was able to see this large plastic shopping bag inside the octopus' garden, which he did not want to let go of.

After a little bit of tug of war with him and trading it for a rock, the octopus finally lets go of the plastic bag.

Cleanup dives with the Cleanup Crew-Environmental Divers group always result in something interesting. This dive was no exception.

My only regret is not being able to get an angle where the bubbles wouldn't have gotten in the way.
