Indonesian family have 12 fingers and 12 toes

Members of a family in Indonesia have all been born with 12 fingers and toes due to a genetic anomaly.

In a rare phenomenon, the family from West Sumatra all have extra fingers and toes, a trait that has been running in the family for at least seven generations.

The family of six live in the home of grandmother Siya, 53, in the city of Limapuluhkota.

The video also features Yasmita, 37, and children Nandi (nine), Fera (eight), Nina (three) and Hendri (one and a half).

To make ends meet, Yasmita helps his parents on the farm. She is divorced from her husband.

Writes the filmer: "They have trouble finding suitable shoes so that most families have to keep wearing flip-flops."

According to the filmer, the family sometimes experience difficulties in the community because locals believe they may have violated some kind of ancestral oath.

According to local doctors the family members have 12 fingers and toes due to a genetic disorder.
