Madrid celebrated Chinese New Year on Sunday with a colourful street parade and a packed cultural programme.

Thousands of people lined the streets to watch dragon dancers and musicians make their way through the centre of the city.

It's the third year running that the Spanish capital has officially marked the occasion.

As of 2009, official figures showed 145,425 Chinese citizens residing in Spain.

However, this figure does not include people with origins in other Overseas Chinese communities, nor Spanish citizens of Chinese origin or descent.
