I was returning from a company branch in MT.
And I noticed a shadow of a plane crossing over my truck but didn't see a plane.
Aprox 4-5 Miles later I notice what looked to be a glider flying low over freeway. He continued to follow the freeway up through the canyon.
I thought this was odd as I've never seen a glider in this area before.
I continued to follow the plane it continued to go lower and lower.
I decided something was wrong and something bad was about to happen.
I took out my phone and started to video plane.As he got lower I put my emergency flashers on and tried to give him room as it looked like he was trying to land on freeway.
At the last second a black pickup passed me and pilot thought he was going to hit that truck and he veered to left the east bound lanes of freeway and creashed.
I pulled over asap as did black pickup and both jumped the meridian guards to the plane to help piolot if we could.
Traffic was stopped because of debris in road.The other bystander was with piolot as I removed all I could of debris wings tail section.
Went to piolot to offer help to get out of plane. We asked him to look at us to check if he was in shock.
He said he was ok stood up in cockpit and walked to krail
I had him sit up against the krail
I noticed there was a fire in engine and asked if anyone had fire extinguisher someone said yes and ran to get it He came back and put the fire out.
He asked for his phone and tried to get up to get it I told him to stay seated and I would get it for him . He told me we're it was in cockpit and I retreved it and brought it to him.there was no cell service a bystander asked where they were and I said and pointed to Montana Idaho boarder mile marker 0. That would be closet place to get cell service . The piolot said he wanted to call for help.
At that point myself and one other bystander put out emergency triangles. as traffic was moving swiftly .
I continued to direct traffic to slow down till emergency crew arrived About 45 min later. That freeway is A 70 mile hr zone.
