Race to Alaska - Preparation for the Race

Buy video

The Race to Alaska (r2ak.com) is an annual boat race that starts in Port Townsend, WA, USA. The race is 750 miles long and is done by boats with no motors. They can sail, paddle, row or peddle (look at the video to see peddle). And no ongoing support is allowed. The first leg is from Port Townsend to Victoria, Canada, where they stay until June 17th, when the rest of the race is launched. It takes good preparation, stamina, knowledge of one's boat and intimacy with Pacific Northwest waters to successfully complete (much less win) the race. First prize is $10,000 and second prize is a set of steak knives. This video is of boats preparing for the first leg.
