Humpack whale kayak encounter - Moss Landing, CA - 17June2018
My good friend Greg and I were kayak fishing for King Salmon at Moss Landing, CA on June 17, 2018. The humpback whales were feeding on the schools of anchovies that have recently moved in closer to shore. King salmon also feed on the anchovies, so Greg and I were trolling anchovies around the outside of the school from our kayaks when two humpbacks surfaced right between us. Luckily, I saw them coming and had time to grab my camera! That day, we did not catch any salmon, but had an amazing experience with the whales. We had many whale sightings that day, but none closer than the encounter in this video.
