Traffic in Leeds came to a standstill while the 12th Leeds Pride annual event took place on Millennium Square, where crowds of spectators gather to watch or join in the parade which sets off at 2pm. The parade is led by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) flag which proceeds through the city centre and finishes on Lower Briggate where the party continues on stage with live entertainment until the early hours. It is estimated that up to 40,000 people turned up to join in the event. Numerous roads were closed around the city centre, to allow the event to take place and other roads had road blocks in place using dustbin wagons while the parade marched past.
