In the early hours of 1st March 2018 a force 12 hurricane 'Storm Emma' howled into Holyhead Harbour from the north east and destroyed the marina. Winds in excess of 80mph smashed into the marina causing the floating pontoons to break apart and 80 boats to be sunk, damaged, or otherwise wrecked on the rocks and against breakwater wall. This video was taken at around 11am the following morning by Martin Sampson who is a local diving instructor and member of Holyhead Lifeboat crew. The view from the marina carpark is to the west towards Holyhead Mountain and the now derelict Soldiers Point castle.
