Students in Colombia marched in major cities to demand a US$4.5 billion riase to the country's higher education and the liquidation of prior debts on Wednesday, October 17.

The protests come as a response to recently elected president Ivan Duque, who announced a US$1 billion investment in educations during the next few years, which students claim is not enough. While spending has increased by almost three times in the last twenty years, the budget has only grown by approximately 70 percent.

During the second day of student mobilizations in defense of higher education in Colombia, the authorities of Bogotá reported alterations to public order. The students protected the police and fought against the vandals who wanted to generate chaos.
While the government of Ivan Duque announces a large budget for the war, students across the country protest the low investment in education and the abandonment to public universities.
