On the 13th October 2018, heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in Wales and water levels in the river Usk rose rapidly. Turning the sedate small river Usk at Chainbridge and at Usk in an enormous raging river. as a healthcare worker, I needed to visit a patient at home just outside of Usk and came across this long section of road which was flooded. Normally thecriver water level is several meters below the road and to me it looked passable at first but once I came past the house and I could see stranded vehicles on the other side of the flooded section, I started doubting and then the water suddenly deepened to drop the headlights on my Mercedes van under water. Water started making its way into the back of the van through the sliding doors and there was only one option which was to continue driving and keep fingers crossed. Luckily the bow wave kept water out of the engine bay and below the engine air intake.
Must have been my lucky day.
