A group of divers had a once in a lifetime experience when a huge great shark circled them whilst diving off the coast of South Africa.

Footage shows the 13-feet shark swimming just a few inches from one of the divers as the others film the amazing close encounter on their cameras.

''This shark swam around and showed no threat to any of these divers at any time. The video was taken as a testament to Sharks not being the man-eaters that the "Jaws Syndrome" sets them out to be,'' said the filmer.

''This was an awesome treat for these divers as great white sharks are not common sightings in our area and when we do see them it's just fleetingly.''

The clip was captured on October 16.

On the 16th of October 2018 Blue Ocean Dive Resort's divers partook in a baited shark dive, done on a near daily basis. This day Carsten Boel and his son, Geraldine Rochat as well as brothers Pablo and Juan Luis Molano all joined our Shark Whisperer, Rae Du Plessis. About 10 minutes into the dive, this 3-4m Great White Shark joined them among the Oceanic Black Tip Sharks, this shark stuck around, investigating them (the divers) for around 10 minutes. Allowing both Rae and Carsten to capture some awesome footage (Carsten is the diver you see with the camera that the shark gets pretty close to). This was an AWESOME treat for these divers as Great White Sharks are not a common sightings in our area and when we do see them it's just fleetingly.
