A special visit to Soso Village on Naviti Island, Fiji

This was a special visit to Soso Village located on Naviti Island in the Yasawa Island chain of Fiji. We were honored to be a part of such a wonderful trip to this Village nestled in the center of Soso Bay.

We learned about their history, including the practice of cannibalism as late as the 1870s. Don't worry though, the Fijian people are known around the World as the friendliest bunch of people you could meet.

Soso Village has endured many tropical cyclones in it's time, including Cyclone Bebe in October 1972, Cyclone Oscar in 1983, both Cyclone Eric and Nigel in 1985, Cyclone Joni in 1992, Cyclone Kina in 1992 through 1993, Cyclone Evans in December 2012, and the strongest cyclone to ever hit the Southern Hemisphere, Cyclone Winson. The one place in the Village to take shelter from is at the Methodist church, which was built of concrete and reinforced with steel after Cyclone Bebe.

This video gives a brief glimpse of the village and it's people, who were very friendly and welcoming. This tour is provided through Mantaray Island Resort just a shot boat ride away and is a great way to see real Fijian culture at it's roots.
