This is the remarkable moment a kitty called Max was finally revealed to be the cat burglar who'd been swiping the neighbours' newspapers.

The cat's owner had for a while been coming home to find the local rag on the doorstep of their home in Wainuiomata, New Zealand.

"I always thought it was one of my cats by the teeth marks in the paper but last night we got video evidence," Max's owner said.

The clip shows Max walking nonchalantly away from the neighbour's property with a tabloid in his mouth.

He then leaps over the fence to bring the stolen goods back to his home.

So, while the identity of this feline felon may have been revealed, no one has yet established a motive.
