Songket is a typical wastra of the Silungkang area
The specialty of songket lies in the motif and type, as well as the materials and manufacturing techniques. Another uniqueness is the variety. There is songket ikat, batabua songket, full, thread two, and wide songket.

Silungkang songket is made from warp or warp threads. While the fabric decoration uses makao yarn or weft yarn. Especially for makao yarns, there are gold thread or not. Therefore, the type of Silungkang songket is divided into two.

gold-plated songket types are usually limited to market. Because the price is expensive and its use is only for certain events or activities. For example marriage, batagak gala (coronation of the prince), and welcoming of important guests.

on the contrary, the ornate gold-plated songket has a wider marketing range. Usually used for traditional clothing, also as material for making shirts, scarves, tablecloths, to wall decorations.

To make songket, yarns are processed using simple tools made of wood and bamboo. the main equipment is a 2x1.5 meter loom called Panta.

While the additional equipment is a yarn roller named Ani and rollers of round wood shaped cloth with a diameter of 5 cm and a length of about 1 meter. This cloth rollers are very important because songket that has been made should not be folded so as not to damage the motif.

Although made with simple equipment, the beauty of the Silungkang songket motif is worth selling very high. Silungkang songket base is usually dark red (vermillion red), dark green, or dark blue. Can be combined with other colors and easily recognizable from prominent motifs.
