Bizarre moment referee scores goal in Netherlands 4th division game
This is the bizarre moment a referee scored a goal in the Dutch 4th Division and then controversially allowed the strike to stand.
The rare incident took place on Saturday (May 25) as home side Harkemase Boys took on Hoek in the town of Harkema.
Hoek player Rik Impens fired the ball in hard towards the Harkemase Boys goal but it bounced off the woodwork straight into referee Maurice Paahuis and ricocheted into the goal.
Despite protests from the Harkemase Boys, Paahuis immediately awarded the goal to Hoek.
Fortunately, the controversial goal didn't play a decisive role in the match as the home side went on to win the game 4-2.
The goal was officially awarded to Hoek's Impens, who was the last player to touch the ball before the referee 'scored'.
