Volkswagen or VW is one of the automotive brands known for its unique classic cars. In Indonesia, the brand has many fans even though the car's age is quite old. Last week, hundreds of classic VW car fans gathered in Palembang in order to meet the Volkswagen across Sumatra. Not only from Sumatra, but a number of participants also came from Java, such as Bekasi and Tasikmalaya.

The VW cars that were present are generally the Combi, Beetle (Bug), and Safari. The cars came from various production lifespans, ranging from the 60s to 80s. However, these classic cars were still in prime condition and maintained. They can even walk thousands of kilometers away. This annual meeting was a venue for gathering classic VW lovers in the country.

Ivan Wahyudi (wears red t-shirt), Regional Leader of Sumatra VW Club said, “Cars that come from the Combi, Bug, Safari, and Caravelle types. This Sumatran VW meeting is an annual gathering held by the Sumatran regional VW according to the VW Indonesia's national agenda.”

For fans of the classic VW, owning and caring for an antique car is a satisfaction. Like other vehicles, the car must still receive periodic maintenance such as changing oil and routine service. But not only that, old cars like the classic VW must still be often driven to be more resilient.

Yudi Herbi (wears a black t-shirt), a classic VW lover said, “You also have to treat VW cars such as oil changes, routine service and so on. The more often they are invited to walk far, this vehicle becomes more resilient. By collecting the cars at home, they might be in good condition. But for the perfection of the engine and the wheels, it would be less good. But if they are often invited to walk, they would become amazing.”

The reunion of the classic VW car that takes place every year is not only an arena for the meeting of automotive lovers but also contributes to the promotion of tourism potential in the region.
