A major fire broke out at a thermal plant near Moscow today (July 11), killing one and injuring at least 13 people.

Drone footage shows flames engulfing Severnaya thermal power plant in Mytishchi as smoke billows above the area.

Dozens of people in the area were evacuated as firefighters worked to tackle the fire, which is now under control.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

The explosion and a major fire occurred near Moscow at the CHP in Mytishchi. The pillar of fire rose to 50 meters. Due to the fire, the Ostashkovskoye Highway was blocked. From the nearest hostel and enterprises many people were evacuated. The fire was helped by fire helicopters and all district rescue services. According to preliminary information, as a result of the fire, 1 person died, this is a female guard, found in a change house 30 meters from the fire epicenter, another 14 people were injured. The fire area is estimated at 800 square meters.
