Two robots make up the high-tech service staff at the new Robo Chef restaurant in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, eastern India.

It is said to be the first restaurant in eastern India where two the Indian-developed robots namely ‘Champa’ and ‘Chameli’ are engaged in serving food to the customers.

Robo Chef owner Jeet Bashar said: "Being inspired by the services by robots in restaurants during my visit to the US, I wanted that kind of service here in Bhubaneswar where a robot can be used in restaurants.

"Robo Chef is probably the first restaurant in eastern India and the first non-line follower restaurant in India,

"Earlier restaurants in cities like Chennai and Bengaluru offer food services through robots.

"Robot restaurants in India are all imported from China, but this is a completely made-in-India restaurant. The robots of the restaurant are developed at a Jaipur-based start up."

The best feature of the robots developed using SLAM technology, meaning they need no guided path or environment modification for installation in any restaurant.

The robots instead automatically navigate like humans, following their own routes to achieve their instructed goals.
