Come face to face with one of the most fierce, epic, historical, and record breaking blizzards to ever hit the Mid-Atlantic United States. By many accounts this storm will hold record snowfall accumulation in many areas, especially in metro Washington DC and Baltimore. As seen from Frederick, Maryland, the snow started to fall in the afternoon of January 22nd, and accumulated throughout the night and into the evening of January 23rd. Snow accumulation amounts was about 34 inches in Fredrick. Other observations included snowfall rates of 1-3 inches per hour at times, winds of 35 miles per hour and greater, blowing and drifting snow, with snow drifts of 4-7 feet and higher.
