These were the moments an orphan joey was rescued by wildlife vets in South Australia on January 8.

Footage shows the exhausted junior kangaroo with burnt feet as wildlife vets transport it to a safer area.

The filmer explained: "I am a final year veterinary student working with a wildlife carer.

"We have been going into the fire zones, rescuing injured animals.

"We came across this Joey, hanging around his deceased mother.

"It was clear she - yes found out he is actually a she - was distressed, she didn't try and escape us and allowed us to capture her.

"We took her to a local rescue for rehabilitation run by a friend of mine.

"Unfortunately after two weeks of rehabilitation and nurture, she passed away from tetanus.

"We decided to name her Woodsi and she was very comfortable in her final weeks.

"She got to eat lots of food, she got to sleep on comfy blankets and was given lots of love.

"We continue to go out and assist injured wildlife.

"A heavy focus is now on feeding the remaining animals as there is no feed on the burnt pasture."
