A protester defuses a moment of extreme tension between Black Lives Matter demonstrators and riot police on Whitehall in central London on Saturday (June 6th).

Footage shows protesters pushing towards a police line and taunting officers one of whom has his baton drawn.

As things look set to come to blows, an unidentified man places himself between the two sides and urges the protesters to calm down.

"No, no. This is not what we are here to do," the man says repeatedly.

His intervention appears to work and the protesters do calm down.

Black Lives Matter heated moment captured outside of Downing Street in London - crowds continue pushing and taunting the police to a point where officer threatens a protester with a baton. A man can be seen arrested in the background. The crowd continues shouting 'No Justice - No Peace' as a young man places himself between the riot police and the protesters as a human shield and can be heard shouting 'No - No this is not what we are here for' and calms the crowd down.
