This wild platypus scratching its belly is the cutest thing you've probably never seen before

This was the rare encounter with a wild platypus where it was caught adorably scratching itself in an Australian conservation area.

Footage from June 19 shows the bizarre mammal in a stream in the Winterbrook Falls Forest Reserve on the island of Tasmania.

It is seen using one of its webbed feet to scratch its tummy in a very cute fashion.

Subsequent footage shows the animal leaving the stream across a gravel path.

The filmer said online: "I see them all the time and without as many people around with all the restrictions they are getting pretty bold."

Platypuses are egg-laying mammals that can produce venom.
