Protesters belonging to the activist group Extinction Rebellion have been arrested by police during a protest in central London.

Footage from September 3 shows members of Extinction Rebellion blocking Victoria Street after they superglued themselves to surfaces and locked themselves in a bright pink truck.

The scene happened while other members of the activist group occupied Parliament Square.

The protest prompted a large police presence and dozens were arrested, according to a tweet by the Met Police.

The filmer told Newsflare: "About 50 police were on hand as dozens of protesters held a sit-in protest on Victoria Street, London while others had occupied Parliament Square, as part of their 10 days of high profile protests.

"A number of activists had blocked the road by chaining themselves inside a pink van with chains and what appeared to be superglue on one their hands as he was released from the van and immediately arrested.

"The police spent ages trying to remove and cut through the chains and/or poles to remove and arrest the remaining people."
