At least eight people have been killed after an explosion at a petrol station in Lagos, Nigeria on Thursday (October 8).

Footage filmed in the Burawa neighbourhood shows flames burning after the explosion and smoke billowing into the air.

The filmer Ayodeji Ojo told Newsflare: "It all started 5:30 am while I was still sleeping and got a call from my security that there was a fire outbreak opposite the house. I jumped up half-naked to save my life, I was the only one left in the compound."

The explosion has also destroyed at least 25 homes, 16 shops and a primary school.
