California beekeeper attracts hundreds of honey bees in viral TikTok
A California beekeeper showed off an amazing natural phenomenon by attracting a swarm of bees to an empty beehive box laid out for them.
The video shows Daren Hess inspecting a bee colony that moved into an empty box strategically placed on a balcony in California.
Daren's love for bees has created a buzz on TikTok (@kingsburghoney), where he boasts 1.2 million likes and nearly 80 thousand followers.
He told Newsflare: "In order to thrive, honey bees need a good home and clean food. We can plant flowers to provide food, but what about a home? Every spring, healthy bee colonies split in two in order to reproduce. The resulting swarm goes looking for a new home. In the past, there were plenty of old hollow trees to move into. Nowadays, they end up moving into a garage wall or other place where they'll likely get exterminated.
"By providing an attractive bee box for them, they'll choose it instead. This box can be left where it is or moved out to another safe place where there is plenty of food. The box is a standard beehive box containing ten 'frames' of beeswax comb created by another colony of bees and available from any beekeeper."
