A man in London made a device which could transfer his iPad drawings onto an LED matrix.

The footage filmed on October 29 by Neythen shows him draw a tree on his iPad and the image is automatically recreated on the LED panel.

He told Newsflare: "Part of the initial project was to make cellular automata, these are kind of like an animation that evolves on the LED screen from an initial pattern, the animation heavily depends on the initial pattern."

The device is also able to transfer colour from the iPad onto the matrix: "A server written in Python on the Raspberry Pi which reads the incoming messages from the iPad app containing the pixel colour information."

The paint application initially was a way to set the initial pattern of the cellular automata using an iPad, from there it kind of grew into its own project as the paint application. There are three main parts to how it works: 1. the iPad application which allows you to paint on a 64x64 canvas that corresponds to the 64x64 LED matrix, as you paint this app sends the pixel colour data over the local network. 2. A server written in Python on the raspberryPi which reads the incoming messages from the iPad app containing the pixel colour information. 3. A C++ application that is sent the data from the Python server and interfaces with the matrix to display the pixels that are painted. I then 3D printed a case to hold everything. I made it because I wanted to run retro games on an LED matrix and it kinda grew from there.
