An amusing video has emerged from the US of a cat pawing manically at a window to try to get at a squirrel.
In the footage, captured at a home in Carlton, Michigan on Friday, ‘Ares’, a ginger and white cat, paws at the window for more than 30 seconds while watching the squirrel on the porch outside.
“He is remarkably intelligent for a cat, and as a result has quite the personality” his owner later wrote online.
Fortunately, the squirrel was able to make a safe getaway.

The cat belongs to my wife and I, and his name is Ares (like the Greek god). He is 1 year and 4 months old. He is remarkably intelligent for a cat, and as a result has quite the personality. I found him at a shelter (first cat I asked to see) and liked him enough to call my wife, and this is her first interaction with him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcMF_ET6qfQ. He regularly goes outside: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gomLEvyPzkM. I have lots of video of him (I was going to put together a montage in a few years for my wife). He will walk outside with a cat harness on like a dog with a leash, and he's the only cat I've seen in person to do so. He regularly paws at the window to ask to go outside, easily several times a day. Just this morning I was making breakfast in the kitchen, heard the pawing against the window, yelled "Ares you're not going outside", heard him meow back to me, and the pawing stopped. While I'm sitting at my computer, he will stand up and gently touch my upper arm with his paw to get my attention. I'll always ask "what do you want" and if he wants attention, he lines up to jump on my lap (and waits for me to say "up" to jump). If he wants food, water, or a litter change, he'll step away a bit, look back, and meow. When I stand up, he runs over to what he wants. If it is food, he stands next to his food dish. If he needs his litter changed, he rubs against the litter box (we've NEVER had an accident with him, ever and we've had him for just under 10 months). He will only drink out of the sink, so if he wants water he jumps on the counter, paws at the faucet, and meows. If he wants out on the deck, he paws at the window, and we let him sit in the dog crate that can be seen in the original video. If he wants to go outside for a walk, he goes to the front door and either paws at it, or reaches up and paws at the doorknob. He can also do a few simple tricks like "kiss" (nuzzle my noze, or my wife's chin) or "touch" (touch my hand, even if that means jumping straight up in the air for it). He is very vocal to the point that we can often tell what he wants when we actually ask him. Finally, he is the only cat I've ever encountered that actually comes when he is called. He could be completely asleep, but if we call "Ares" he will get up, come over, stretch and yawn, and wait to see what we want. He is a wonderful cat, and I have more footage of him.
