An alert has been issued for Chesil beach and surrounding areas around Portland in Dorset on England's south coast following a tidal surge.

"Sea spray overtopping is forecast along the coast as a result of high tides and strong winds," the Environment Agency said.

Video filmed on Saturday evening (January 30) shows first responders and officials from the UK Environment Agency at the scene.

The Environment Agency said: "Flooding to roads and properties is possible at these times, however conditions may apply one to two hours either side of the high tide."

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences. Please be careful along beaches, promenades and coastal footpaths and roads as large waves could be dangerous. Owners with property flood resilience equipment should install it now."

Forecast high water is 8:00pm on 30/01/21 with a level of 6.12 mAOD and a Force 7 East North Easterly wind. All times are local and refer to the high water time at Chiswell. For more detail refer to local tide tables. Flooding to roads and properties is possible at these times, however conditions may apply one to two hours either side of the high tide. Areas most at risk are A354 Chiswell, Brandy Row, Pebble Lane, Victoria Square up to the junction with Queens Road, the car parks along the A354 and the yard along Lerret Road.
