Scene outside court as Derek Chauvin’s trial is underway

Opening statements are scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was seen in a disturbing video kneeling on George Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes during a fatal May 2020 arrest. Floyd's death in police custody drew outrage and a worldwide reckoning on police reform and racial justice.
The video shows the scene outside the courthouse as the first day of the trial is underway.
