Watch this amazing footage of a drone flying right through an erupting volcano on France’s Reunion island
A drone flies through the lava splashes of the erupting volcano Piton de la Fournaise in France's overseas territory of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean in video captured on April 21.
"An extreme dive into the heart of a volcano! When my drone encountered the molten lava, I had no choice but to force its way through the wall of magma at more than 1,000 degrees Celsius," explained filmed Jonathan Payet on Instagram.
"I'm used to the terrain...but it was a first for me to cross the spurting lava above the erupting cone," he added.
Payet had to walk for five hours with a 20-kilogramme backpack to capture this remarkable perspective.
The active volcano frequently attracts hikers and tourists.
But only a day after this video was filmed, two students died in a suspected lightning strike after hiking up the volcano.
Police have since warned hikers to stay away from the site.
