This is the fascinating moment two rat snakes were seen mating in the backyard of a house in northern Thailand.

Footage shows the two reptiles doing their ceremonial mating ritual in the grassy part of a yard in Uthai Thani province.

Silchai Khayan visited his sister’s garden to take some mangoes from its tree surrounded by tall grass and met the unexpected guests.

He said: "These rat snakes are normally not dangerous to humans."
