Police in Bangkok, Thailand, fired tear gas at pro-democracy protesters on Saturday 7 August.

The protesters are calling for democracy after seven years of authoritarian rule, following a military coup in 2014.

Police clashed with more than a thousand protesters, who were also demonstrating against the government's handling of the pandemic and its economic effects.

They blocked a road near the capital's Victory Monument and used tear gas, water cannon and rubber bullets to stop a march toward Government House, officials said.
