Police in Thailand fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters in Bangkok on Saturday 7 August.

Around 50-150 protesters had tried to move containers that the police were using to block protesters' route to the prime minister's office.

As the containers were moved, the police opened fire using tear gas and rubber bullets, while The protesters threw petrol bombs, fireworks and bricks. The battles began at around 3pm local time.

This video shows the police front line, the moment they advanced.

Despite these clashes, most protesters were around 1.5km (1 mile) away at the time.

The protesters were angry at the government's handling of the pandemic and its economic impacts, as well as what opponents see as an undemocratic government, led by a prime minister who originally came to power in a military coup in 2014.
