Popular Tourist Attration: Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Shrine Never Ending Torii Gates

Buy video

Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Shrine is a popular tourist destination, with the "thousands of torii gates" (sembon torii) located in the back of the main shrine. The torii gates are donations from individuals, corporations, etc., with the name of the donor on the torii gate.
Walking through the gates, visitors can forget about the city and experience nature and all its creatures firsthand. Though in the beginning the walkway of the torii gates is flat, the course is upwards (mountain trail). Plan 2-3 hours for the hike to the mountain summit and back, though you can turn around at any point.
There is no charge to go through the torii gates, though there are shrine offering boxes for those who wish to use them.
