Hungarian woman makes intricate food sculptures and carvings from watermelons, cheese and avocado
A woman makes incredibly intricate food sculptures and carvings on food – using everything from watermelons to cheese and even an AVOCADO.
Szimonetta Zombori, 28, creates beautiful pieces of artwork, with an unusual twist – her canvas is food.
The mum-of-two, who lives in Bournemouth, Dorset, has carved intricate designs into everything from watermelons and cheese to broccoli and even an avocado.
The pictures show some of her incredible freehand designs – which range from flowers and patterns to celebrities faces – which take hours at a time and can cost up to £200 per carving.
Szimonetta’s work has even attracted major clients such as Sainsbury’s and L’Oreal who want her to create unique pieces for ad campaigns.
She said: “I have always been good at art and sculpture, and one day I tried it on some fruit.
“I just come up with the designs and sketch them onto the food I’m using, then go for it.
“I’ll carve designs into whatever food I have available – whether it’s chocolate, cheese, melon or a butternut squash!”
Creative Szimonetta, who goes by the nickname ‘Sisi’, completed a stone sculpting course in 2014 after leaving school, but quickly discovered she had a passion for a more unusual medium.
The mum-of-two, who is originally from Hungary but moved to the UK eight years ago, began experimenting by sketching designs onto different foods before beginning to carve them out - and took a shine to it.
Setting up her business, Sisi Food Sculptor, she began taking commissioned pieces for weddings and other large events as well as working with big brands such as Sainsbury’s, L’Oreal, Aldi and Coach New York.
Her partnership with Sainsbury’s two years ago even saw her carving take a step further by carving celebrity faces into pumpkins, including Ed Sheeran and David Bowie.
Sisi said: “It can be tiring when I have a big project to complete – like when I have lots of pumpkins to carve it’s a race against the clock to get them completed while they’re still fresh.
“I can complete smaller pieces like mangoes or cheese blocks in under two hours but a watermelon or pumpkin can take more than three.
“But I prefer working on bigger foods because there is more space to do more with it.
“Watermelons are my favourite to carve because they look great with the different colours.”
Her most recent venture has seen her begin chocolate carving and she plans to make large chocolate sculptures.
She also runs a company selling artisan gift boxes containing her hand crafted chocolates, called Rosegold & Grey.
“I love coming up with new ideas,” she said. “I am always thinking about what I can do next.”
