Colleen and Arkadiy from San Francisco Visited a Qipao Workshop in Shanghai
Qipao is also known as cheongsam and it is a one-piece Chinese dress with its origin in Manchu-ruled China and it got modernized and became popular among celebrities and upper class in Shanghai in the 1920s.
To make a beautiful Qipao, there are lots of details need to pay attention to, including the design of the collar, the clasps, the outline, the embroidery and etc.
Colleen and Arkadiy are from San Francisco, California. They got an opportunity to visit Shanghai to learn more about Qipao. In this short video, they got a precious opportunity to visit a Qipao workshop there. Many masters are working in the workshop. Each master only focus on one part of the Qipao. One makes the style. one makes men's coat. one tailors and another one wears Qipao onto model.
