A woman living in Chester County, Pennsylvania, has recorded a series of videos explaining how she cares for her mother who has dementia.

Karen, 47, lives 3 miles down the road from her mum Kathy, 74, and makes regular visits to care for her.

Karen said: "I feel blessed to still have this time with her and to be able to help my dad keep mum home. I love when she looks at me and I recognize certain expressions when I'm talking to her or working on my macrame.

"I find comfort in her expressions because it shows me she is making a connection with me.

"The most challenging thing about taking care of my mum is the grief I feel and how much I miss the mother she was to me. Grieving the loss of a parent who is still alive is very hard and very sad. As they decline you grieve more.

"My mum has an uncommon type of dementia called FTD. Frontal temporal degeneration of the brain. Mum gradually became 100 percent nonverbal four years ago."
