An 18-year-old fitness TikToker has shared the moment he was verbally abused and called a “weirdo” for exercising shirtless in the gym.

Nick Nush, a college student from Bensalem, Pennsylvania, United States, was recording a video of his back workout to judge his progress when he noticed another man filming him from across the gym.

In the video from October 9, shot on Nick’s phone, he catches sight of the approaching stranger who asks: “What’re you doing man? Getting that shirtless workout in?”

Nick, who has been going to the gym since the age of 16, is heard replying "yes" to the gym-goer, who then becomes aggressive calling the 18-year-old a “weirdo” for his shirtless attire.

After questioning why he is being called a weirdo, the man tells Nick: “Because you’re shirtless in a f***ing gym re*trd.”

The TikTok video, which has amassed 1.2 million likes in one week, then shows the man slamming down his water bottle and squaring up to Nick, coming within inches of the young fitness enthusiast’s face.

“I normally only workout shirtless if I'm recording my back or want to record any body part you can't see with a tank top on”, Nick told Jam Press.

“I have never received this type of reaction before.”

After explaining that he was filming his own back and telling the man that he didn’t need to record him, the stranger continues his aggressive tirade.

He tells Nick: “Weird man, it’s weird. F*** you.”

At which point Nick retaliates, asking: “What you mad an 18-year-old is bigger than you?”

In the video’s voice-over, Nick explains: “So I don’t even know this dude and I am confused as hell what’s going on and I don’t understand why he’s cursing me out and stuff.

“But he continues to stare at me and flip me off and mouth things at me so I just had to say something.”

The stranger continues: “What are you talking about? F*** you, I’ll f*** you up.”

After several more rounds of cursing from the confrontational stranger, he eventually leaves Nick alone to continue his workout.

Nick said: “The ordeal ended with me ignoring him and he finally left me alone so I could continue my workout in peace.

"I did show the gym managers the video and it's up to them what they want to do with him”

Nick later commented on his video: “For everyone saying ‘why didn’t I hit him?’, I know he was being a tool and an a**hole, but these people aren’t worth it.

“I’m more mature than this guy.

“Also I don’t wanna deal with the police for assault or being banned from the gym.

“I can control myself, obviously this dude has problems.”

Social media users praised Nick’s cool reaction to the gym-goer in the TikTok video, with one writing: “Good job being the adult.”

Another user wrote: “He definitely wears a shirt in the pool.”

One person commented: “It’s proper gym etiquette to wear a shirt. But dude was way out of pocket. You should’ve smacked him silly.”

Another user added: “My god, this is toxic masculinity in action. Mate, you just experienced a tenth of what most women have to endure in the weights section EVERY DAY.”

Whilst one user said: “Beta as hell. You did good my guy, not even worth the breath.”

Another person wrote: “Shows maturity right there to be the bigger man. Good stuff bro.”
