Diving among stingrays, a fascinating sight from the Maldives
The world's largest feeding place for stingrays is the Hanifaru Bay Biosphere Reserve. Hundreds of individuals gather in a plankton-rich bay. The bay itself is relatively small in size, but because of its shape, plankton from the ocean gets into it. The best time to visit the reserve is during the western monsoon (from July to the end of September), the concentration of plankton in the bay increases and attracts a large number of rays and whale sharks.
