Protesters in Sri Lanka have burned dozens of buses and cars as well as property belonging to politicians as the crisis-hit country plunged further into chaos.

Dozens of buses used by loyalists to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to travel to the capital earlier in the day were torched or damaged across the country.

As clashes spread late into Monday night (May 10), authorities imposed an indefinite curfew across the nation of 22 million people and called in the military to help contain the violence.

Anti-government protesters have been demanding the resignations of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his brother, who stepped down as prime minister this week, over a debt crisis that has nearly bankrupted Sri Lanka and left its people facing severe shortages of fuel, food, and other essentials.

Footage filmed on Monday (May 10).
