This footage was filmed and produced 26 May 2022.
The celebration of Independence Day on May 26 is timed to the date of the proclamation of independence of the country by the first democratic government of Georgia headed by Noe Jordania in 1918. The First Georgian Democratic Republic existed for two and a half years.
Georgia regained its independence in 1991. The corresponding act, based on the results of the national referendum, was adopted by the Supreme Council of the Republic on April 9.
Translation of Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili's speech:
– I confirm to our citizens in Abkhazia and South Ossetia that Georgia will not take anything by force or war against you.
Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia:
[0:47-0:56] – We have ensured the longest period of peace in our recent history and we have applied for membership in the European Union.
